Akron, Ohio – The Lindenwood-Belleville softball team took on No. 3 WVU Tech in the first round of the USCAA National Tournament.
The Lady Lynx got off to a fast start after a leadoff walk by Mackenzie Foiles, a single by Marquis Lozoya, and bunt single by Meghan Rumley. Samantha Pacecho came up next and would hit a fly ball to centerfield. Centerfielder Stephanie Nickell would drop the fly ball, and Foiles and Lozoya would come around to score.
Already up 2-0 the Lady Lynx would add another two in the top of the third inning. This time it would be Samantha Pacecho coming up with a big two run home run.
The Lady Golden Bears would not go away though. They would score in the next three innings to tie the game up at four. The Lady Golden Bears would get one in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth.
In the sixth inning pitcher Stephanie Holiday would pick up her first one two three inning and the Lady Lynx would score the go ahead run in the top of the seventh. Marquis Lozoya would lead off the inning with a single. After stealing second base Lozoya would move over to third base on a Rumley fly ball to right center. Pacecho would come up next and knock in Lozoya, picking up her fourth RBI of the game.
Holiday would get another one two three inning in the bottom of the seventh and the Lady Lynx would go on win 5-4.
Holiday (14-11) would be credited with the win, going seven innings giving up ten hits and four earned runs. Taylor Norman (2-4) would come on in relief and get the loss, pitching the final three innings giving up one earned run and three hits.
Lozoya, Pacecho, and Rumley collected two hits apiece for the Lady Lynx to lead the offense. Nicolle Miskowicz and Brittney Snow picked up the other two hits for the Lady Lynx.
With the win the Lady Lynx stay in the winner's bracket and will play the winner of the No. 7 Ave Maria and No. 2 Carlow University game. Game time is set for 12 pm (11 am CT).
